Barbara Carol Roberts Baylis, a native of Longview, Texas is the daughter of Horace Nelson Roberts, Jr. and Edna Mae Willard. Mrs. Baylis attended Kilgore College where she majored in Business. Additionally, Mrs. Baylis studied Writing at Southern Methodist University.
Primarily a wife and mother, Mrs. Baylis has held professional positions as Director of a YWCA, a professional portrait photographer and professional genealogist
Mrs. Baylis is married to Robert Vernon Baylis. They have two children, Robert Bradley Baylis and Belinda Carol Baylis Bradley, (Mrs. Kerry A. Bradley), as well as four grandchildren. The Baylis’ reside in Dallas, Texas.

Former President of the 1,000 member Dallas Genealogical Society, Barbara was presented with the Award of Merit from the Society for outstanding contributions of service over a number of years. The National Society of New England Women awarded her the Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Patriotic & Educational Service. Barbara was an Instructor in Family History for a number of years in Continuing Education at Southern Methodist University.
She is one of three founders of The Genealogical Institute of Texas, an intensive genealogical studies Institute of five different sessions of courses led by national known instructors from across the United States. She lectures frequently both on the local, regional and national level. From the Arkansas Genealogical Society, received the Arkansas Traveler Certificate signed by the Governor of Arkansas. served the 500 member National Towne Family Association as President.
As a member of Daughters of the American Revolution she proved nineteen Revolutionary Ancestors with seven of those opening up new lines. The DAR list her as a member of The Heritage Club. In her community, she has served for forty-one years as a member of the Lake Highlands Women’s League. She and her husband have been active members of Scofield Bible Church for many years.
