Rev. Dr. Lynne Godard Alcott Kogel, a native of St. Charles, Illinois, is the daughter of William DeMilt Acott, Jr. and Lois Mellander. She is married to Ross Timothy Kogel, and has three children, Kristin Kogel Gedeon, Gretchen Alcott-Kogel Costello, Ross William Kogel.
Dr. Kogel is an academician of the highest order. She initiated her studies in 1962 at Le Torrent, Château d’Œx, in Switzerland, studying French Language and Literature. She then received her B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles ; an M.A. in Humanities from Wayne State University ; a M.Div. from McCormick Theological Seminary; an M.A. in Near Eastern Studies at the University of Michigan; and a Doctor of Ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary.
Dr. Kogel is an ordained Presbyterian minister. During her career, Dr. Kogel served as a Seminary Associate, Campus Minister and Interim Minister in the Presbytery of Detroit; an Associate Professor of Biblical Studies and the Director of Seminary Life at the Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit; and as Adjunct Faculty for Humanities Studies at both Macomb Community College and Wayne State University.

Dr. Kogel is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature; the American Academy of Religion; American Schools of Oriental Research; the Presbytery of Detroit; and is listed in Who’s Who in American Women (1999-2003).
She enjoys telemark skiing and ski mountaineering, as well as sailing (Jeanneau 49DS). She is an avid yachter, and currently holds membership in the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club; Great Lakes Yacht Club; Little Current Yacht Club; Great Lakes Cruising Club; and the Detroit Athletic Club.
Dr. Kogel is member of the International Shipmasters Association, Detroit Lodge #7; and association of the Great Lakes ship captains and people who have a great interest in the navigation and safety on the Saint Lawrence Seaway. She is, additionally, an avid photographer and travels extensively.
