Born in Birmingham, Mrs. Ramsay was raised in Alexander City, Alabama, and is a sixth generation Alabamian. She is married to Erskine Ramsay, II, and they have two sons and four grandchildren. Mrs. Ramsay received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art and English from Birmingham-Southern College and did post graduate work at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She taught at The Altamont School before retiring to raise her children and becoming a community volunteer where she was very involved with the Mountain Brook School System.

Mrs. Ramsay has also been involved with the Birmingham Botanical Gardens where she worked with the Native Plants Division and did botanical illustrations for various conferences held at the Botanical Gardens.
